Sankofa Community Wellness exists to reclaim and reimagine wellness through ancestral knowledge, collective care, and community action. We center Black and Indigenous traditions to advance birthing justice, food sovereignty, and community preparedness—rooted in the belief that true healing begins with remembering who we are and building power together.

The healing of the land is tied to the healing of the people.”

— Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass

We believe every birthing person deserves care that is safe, empowering, and rooted in respect. We support a full spectrum of birthing choices—including both traditional hospital births and non-traditional, community-based birth alternatives. Our work is about honoring the sacredness of birth while ensuring families are informed, supported, and connected throughout the journey—from prenatal planning through postpartum care. We uplift Black and Indigenous birthing wisdom and advocate for systems that center dignity, access, and agency for all.

We support birthing people and families with culturally grounded care, centering doulas, midwives, and traditions that honor birth as sacred. Our work uplifts Black and Indigenous wisdom while fighting for equity in maternal health.

Access to nourishing, culturally relevant food is a right. We strengthen local food systems, uplift Black and Indigenous farmers, and reconnect communities to the land through education, growing, and sovereignty.

We build resilience through emergency preparedness, mutual aid, and local leadership. From disaster planning to resource sharing, we equip communities—especially those historically excluded—with tools to respond and thrive.
